Determining The Right Windows For Your Needs

Replacement Windows

When beginning your search for the right windows for your project, it is imperative that you understand the difference between replacement windows and new construction windows. Replacement windows are made to be installed into pre-existing window openings. Measured to fit an intended space perfectly, replacement windows are special ordered according to your specifications.

New Construction Windows

New construction windows are specifically designed for new homes that are under construction. These windows are not made to act as replacement windows unless the old window opening is completely remolded to fit the specifications of the new construction window. If you are in the process of building your new home, you will choose from the new construction window options.

Double & Single Hung

The majority of new construction windows are either considered to be double-hung or single hung. There is very little difference, except for how they function. Double-hung windows consist of both panels being operational, meaning that they slide up and down and tilt as well. Single-hung windows are only operational in one panel, which in turn slides up and down and tilts. 

Casement Window

Casement windows are typically opened by using a cranking type handle that is turned to open and shut the window. Hinging on the right or left side of the window, the casement window can fit into any type of space easily. 

Picture Window

Made specifically for large spaces and to allow large amounts of vista to be viewed, picture windows typically are not made to open. These windows maximize the amount of light that comes into space, perfect for living rooms, stairways, and any open area.

Bay Windows

Bay windows are made into walls that protrude out in design to give more space in a room. Typically seen in breakfast nooks and rooms where window seating is available.

Transom Windows

Transom windows are narrow windows found in the spaces between windows or doorways and the ceiling. Transom windows are designed to allow more light in as well as to give the allusion of bigger windows.
